such as a syllabus, to
a completely online course.

Current technologies available
determine the methods used by an institution to deliver instruction,
and the best way to begin is slowly and with "what you know" . There are always new technology tools or campus upgrades that will revise the methods of delivery that are implemented, and it is essential that the instruction drives the delivery method and not the other way around.
Distance Education delivery
methods range from communicating via the USPS, to TV, Cable,
Satellite, the Internet, CD-ROM and all hybrid combinations now available. Courses can be developed where
the interaction is meant to take place synchronously, which is two or
more participants interacting at the same time, or asynchronously,
meaning that the materials are available for completion and the student can
access the materials when they are ready. Deadlines can be set
for assignments, but the student can decide when they are able
to work on the projects.
One instance when the descriptions are extremely important, is
when the course is put in the schedule. Each course, no matter
what the delivery mode, should be written with student outcomes
in mind, and use the tools necessary to obtain those goals. The
course must revisit the Curriculum Committee when the mode of
delivery changes, but that is a great time to make sure the technologies
are available to deliver the materials successfully. |
